Brenda restores order as Student of the Week

February 12th, 2012

After Chris’s dictatorial rule led AP English to the brink of anarchy, Brenda restored justice, order, and peace last week in her measured reign as Student of the Week.

Last Friday, she dutifully and respectfully ceded power to Dezmond, current Student of the Week. Brenda noted Dezmond’s humor and all-around goodness.

Dezmond has many other talents as well, including his ability to call out random numbers in his role as “Crazy Number Person.”

Crisis in AP English after Chris keeps crown

January 27th, 2012

After 20 weeks of peaceful transfer of power, Chris today left AP English in chaos today after deciding not to choose a successive Student of the Week.

His reasoning? Nobody stepped up to deserve the award.

Bedlam ensued. Some students looked to Mr. Isero for guidance. How could this happen? What does this mean for order and tranquility and all that is good in the world?

The usually respectful and kind APers demanded retribution. At one point, a majority vote called for a change in leadership, even if that meant revenge (perhaps like Chillingworth). One student asked for democracy and “checks and balances.”

After Chris’s controversial announcement, the rest of Forced Fun took on a more contentious tone than usual. Stephanie received criticism for her wrapping skills, Mr. Isero got booed for his $300 field trip grant, Rashada’s card included an inappropriate word obviously learned as a result of reading The Scarlet Letter, and Marco chose not to sing “Happy Birthday” until his lips were forcibly moved.

So many questions remain. What will happen tomorrow at AP Saturday? Will Chris be punished, and if so, by whom? Will he usurp Mr. Isero’s teaching role and run the class himself? Or will there be a revolution? Stay tuned.

JC: I’m the student.. of YOUR WEEK! :)

November 16th, 2011

So….Being student of the week was alright. I didn’t have anything exciting during my week besides another AP Essay, which I feel confident about. :) Anyway, I feel like Student of the Week is cool in our class. The best thing I did was probably say, “Yeah, go ahead” when someone asked me if they could use the bathroom. Haha! It’s a big role, but not really a hard job being the Student of the Week. I would be it again, but I doubt you can reign two times in the same semester. That’d be the best! But yeah, my three days of ruling the class was nothing special but work, work, and GRIT!!

Advice for the next SoW, Ellie: Don’t be a pushover when it comes to the bathroom! If Isero is talking, tell those suckers to be quiet and wait for passing period! Thanks for choosing me, Paulina! :)

Tips from Brenda, Student of the Week #7

November 7th, 2011

Hi everyone! It was nice being Student of the Week; I would like to thank Carmen for choosing me. I know Beloved was a hard read for a lot of us, but we shouldn’t give up! These challenges are only helping us become better English students. By the end of the year, we will be able to pass the AP exam. :)

One tip I would like to give to everyone is to ask help when you need it. Even if you’re behind in reading or you’re confused about an assignment, it’s better to ask for help earlier than later. Also, I’d just like to thank everyone in this class for making it fun while still challenging ourselves. :D

Paulina: My reign as SoW is officially over

November 7th, 2011

NOOOO!! My reign is over. I cannot believe this, this week has gone by so quickly. It is not enough! I believe my reign has to be longer! I think this whole idea is heartbreaking. How can someone live like this? Who makes these rules anyway?

This whole SoW thing is mind sickening. Being someone one week and then someone else another has totally affected me! I don’t think I can go back to AP English class tomorrow! After this day I cannot have a normal life. I choose not to give up my reign!! MUAHAHAHAH!

signed: My reign is forever!!!!!!!!

:)

Tips from Wendy, SoW #5: Keep It Up! :)

October 13th, 2011

Hello, my AP English family. :) First of all, I want to thank David for choosing me as the fifth Student of the Week. I am so glad that I was able to experience being Student of the Week, which I really enjoyed being. Moreover, I want to acknowledge the hard work we are all doing, and I am really happy to see how much we have improved this first quarter.

I know this class is challenging, and it stresses us out, but in the end, it is that challenge that is making us better AP English students. We are all hard working students and we all deserve to be students of the week. I really like how even though the class is hard, we manage to keep it fun. :D If we continue the hard work, I am sure we’ll all pass our AP English test!

SO, let’s keep working hard, help each other out and keep the class FUN! We got this, you guys! Congratulations, Carmen for being the sixth student of the week. :D

David: Student of the Week #4!

October 8th, 2011

So Student of the Week felt good! I was sort of and not really surprised I was going to be SoW, because you know how Marco is:)

But to be SoW, you just have to be yourself, try hard in class and overall believe in yourself that you are doing good. Don’t let anything bring you down. Only bring AP English to AP English. (Make sense?) If you want to be SoW, just wait for it. There will be a time for everyone, I believe and hope so:D

Have a good long weekend!

Esteffany is Student of the Week!

September 8th, 2011

Her tenure as the first-ever Student of the Week is nearly over, but I wanted to make sure to congratulate Esteffany for her work and dedication last week.

As I said in our circle up, Esteffany demonstrated what it means to be a true APer. She read closely, made thoughtful contributions in discussions, and did additional research on Franz Kafka to deepen our learning.

Good work! Now the question is: Who will Esteffany name as this week’s Student of the Week?
