Rashada: Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

February 19th, 2012

Okay so I’m super stoked to do this Hamlet project!! After all, I went to Shakespeare camp when I was 8! Lol sorry Chavonni! But anyways, life is going good. I’m at a good place in my personal life. I’m super excited for CHEERLEADING to start this week as well. We have about 14 girls coming! It’s going to be awesome. How’s everyone liking Hamlet? I didn’t really like it at first because I didn’t understand it, but after we watched the movie, I understood it!:) Go Hamlet!

Crisis in AP English after Chris keeps crown

January 27th, 2012

After 20 weeks of peaceful transfer of power, Chris today left AP English in chaos today after deciding not to choose a successive Student of the Week.

His reasoning? Nobody stepped up to deserve the award.

Bedlam ensued. Some students looked to Mr. Isero for guidance. How could this happen? What does this mean for order and tranquility and all that is good in the world?

The usually respectful and kind APers demanded retribution. At one point, a majority vote called for a change in leadership, even if that meant revenge (perhaps like Chillingworth). One student asked for democracy and “checks and balances.”

After Chris’s controversial announcement, the rest of Forced Fun took on a more contentious tone than usual. Stephanie received criticism for her wrapping skills, Mr. Isero got booed for his $300 field trip grant, Rashada’s card included an inappropriate word obviously learned as a result of reading The Scarlet Letter, and Marco chose not to sing “Happy Birthday” until his lips were forcibly moved.

So many questions remain. What will happen tomorrow at AP Saturday? Will Chris be punished, and if so, by whom? Will he usurp Mr. Isero’s teaching role and run the class himself? Or will there be a revolution? Stay tuned.

Rashada: Scarlet Letter

January 22nd, 2012

How does the symbolism of the Scarlet Letter change throughout the book?
Scarlet Letter is getting good so far. It’s a bit confusing but it’s good. The meaning of the scarlet letter has changed. At first, the letter was worn as a reminder of Hester’s sin and her charge for Adultery. Now, the letter is portrayed as a good thing.
The significance of the Scarlet Letter is the simple fact of the symbolism of the letter changing. How the people portray the meaning of the letter then versus now is very significant. First, people judged Hester and said they wanted her dead, and that she must “pay” for the sin she committed. Now, the same exact people who had once frowned upon Hester, are expecting things from her, as well as befriending her.

Rashada: Response To Scarlet Letter

January 8th, 2012

So far the book is pretty interesting. There are a lot of words I don’t know, so it can be challenging having to look up words on my electronic dictionary. Hahaha. I totally agree with Nathaly, I’m loving the reading schedule so far. I actually did my weekend reading. A chapter or two a day is great for me. I felt like the book took my attention at the very beginning so I’m already drawn to the book. Hopefully I love it and get into it as much as I have for Ellen Foster!

Kevin: My head is going to explode!

December 4th, 2011

I feel like my head will explode if Christmas Break does not come faster. Yesterday, I actually felt like I was going to have an aneurism from all the things going on. I was so tired I thought I was a zombie for a couple of hours. If it wasn’t for the caring teachers and students at school I probably would bury myself alive until college stops costing so much. Thank God Saturdays and Sundays.

oh yea
I gotta give a shout-out to Monae and Rashada
Love yall

Rashada: Creeper status

December 4th, 2011

It’s 2:18 am and I can’t get to sleep. I just watched this creepy movie called “Albino Farm”…maybe I’m scared that they’re cannibals outside my window..I don’t know but I’m freaked out. My alarm clock just went out for no reason..Okay? That’s pretty weird. Time to turn on Disney Channel :) ! American Dragon Jake Long is on. Haven’t seen this show in years lol. Anyways, I got home late tonight because I was at Chilli’s with some semi important people. I need to get all A’s next semester and I get a car after graduation :) I’m excited..but what if I don’t get ALL A’s. What if I get one B and the rest A’s? I’m freaking out. Paulina, Ellie and Wendy will be my best friends next semester because I can really use their brain! Haha :) I love those girls! But yeah…I’m creeped out due to that movie. I hope I can sleep now..actually no. I’m making coffee so I can stay awake. Goodnight APers :) work hard on your Book Analysis Essays!

Rashada: Siddhartha is confusing!

November 8th, 2011

Siddhartha is kind of confusing to me. Siddhartha has it made. He has everything everyone else wants. Yet Siddhartha is unhappy. When he searches for the path of enlightenment, what is it he discovers? He finds out that there is no exact way to find his path. What is with this dude? Can somebody please clarify? But I really like the book so far. He has me thinking if I have a purpose in the way I live my life or how I’m taught how to live — as well as others.

First Night of Video Chat :)

November 7th, 2011

Hahaha! Tonight was pretty fun. Although Carmen and David were both MIA for a while, and I was being for a while, it was fun :) LOL I’m excited for the next Weekender. Also, I think Siddhartha is going to be a good book for me!

P.S. Stephanie saw me doing some embarrassing things while on camera! LOL

Rashada: Beloved the Beautiful

November 2nd, 2011

While reading Beloved, I felt as though I was inside of the story. Being a young black woman and reading this book makes me look at life a whole new way. Sethe killed her own daughter so that her child wouldn’t be sold into slavery. I knew that slavery was bad, but I didn’t know the drastic decisions one would make to never have to let a loved one go through the experience.

A secret birthday song revealed!

October 28th, 2011

A few weeks ago, we celebrated Mercedes and Ellie’s birthday. But did you know that there was a secret song performed by the one-and-only Rashada (and back-up dancer Silb)? Videographer and paparazzo Leo of iseroma.com was there to document this footage.

A great Advisory workshop day

October 26th, 2011

The Class of 2012 in my Advisory workshop group did huge amounts of work today on their Post-Graduation Plan. I am happy with the work ethic I’m witnessing in the Class of 2012 so far this year.

Keep this momentum up. The only rule is work.

And here are nine beautiful seconds of work captured on video.

Questions I left my students with: What happened today? And how can whatever happened be replicated more often?

Rashada: Justin Bieber influenced me to do better in AP English

September 26th, 2011

Latley, I’ve been feeling very overwhelmed with all of the AP work we have been doing in class. Last week, there was a time where I actually felt like giving up entirely until Mercedes told me something I will never forget to this day. “Do you think Justin Bieber wants a girl who gives up on something as simple as an English class?” she asked me. I shook my head in silence. I feel like in order to make a difference and to be successful in life, I have to pass AP English. I know I am smart and I have the potential to get As and Bs in this class. Thank you, Mercedes, for asking that question!
