David: The Day Has Come!

May 6th, 2012

The day has finally arrived! I believe I have been waiting for this day since the begging of this class. As much as I do not want to take it, I do because it can help me on the long run with all these new writing tips and exercises we have done. Practicing my writing has been difficult because I see it the same since the begging but I am confident that it has improved since day one. I remember I actually did not want to take this class because I thought it would be difficult; I still remember the day in summer where Mr. Isero called me and asking if I was. I was not happy cause I had to decide fast before school starts. After all I believe I made the right decision because I learned so many things that I would never imagined. It has been a great decision!

What has been my motivation is that I actually got a second chance to go to college. Getting that chance has brought me hope that passing this test will give me college credit but also,  good writing practice I can use in the future. I never saw my self in a college so this was not important, but I believe it should because a bunch of people have helped me get to where I am. I have let my program down by not trying and not caring about college, now I want to prove to them that trying my best will get me somewhere. I can’t wait for the test to come and hopefully show that all this hard work has paid of in someway or another!

Something I learned to do: Never to give up.

The Awakening: Nightly Text #11 (Chs 31-33)

March 13th, 2012

I’m happy to report that I received the most texts last night — 20 — since the beginning of the unit. But the bad news is that David, who was undefeated, forgot to do his text! The only undefeated people now are Antonio, Nathaly, Stephanie, and Pauline. (Yes, three of the four are Isero Advisees!)

What does Edna think of her pigeon-house? What were the disadvantages and advantages? What does Mr. P think?

Nate:  Edna thinks of the house as a place that she enjoys. The disadvantage is that it is small like a house for pigeons and advantages are that it is her place of peace. Mr P accepted the place.  The home also gave her a bit of peace by allowing her to understand the meaning of life.

Rashada: I think Edna finds the pigeon house a place where she can be free from Mr.P. She feels like she is free when she’s there and that she can do as she pleases with Robert.

Pauline: Edna thinks that her pigeon-house is amazing and it pleases her. She is fond of her house and it seems as though that is the only thing that keeps her happy. A disadvantage is that she wants to be like the pigeon, free. Something new is awakening inside her that could affect her family and her relationship with her husband.

Nathaly:  Edna is pleased with her house. Even though her house is small she is able to find strength and expand spiritually. Mr. p disproves of her moving into the pigeon house.

When Mr. P gets his wife’s letter about the house, what is his attitude? What does he do, and why?

Steph:  Mr. P’s attitude about the house is that he is sad that his wife wants to leave the house. After he receives that letter, he begged Edna to reconsider. But he remembers about how Edna’s “whimisical” and lets Edna have her way.

Wendy: When Mr. P gets his wife’s letter about the house, he got angry but not because his wife was leaving him but because he was afraid that his reputation and position in society was going to be damaged. As a consequence, what he decided to do was to remodel the house where they lived so that people could think that is why Edna left. He wants to maintain his good reputation. This clearly demonstrates that Mr. P does not love Edna and all he cares about is a good title and what people think about him.

Sarai:  When Edna wrote to her husband about abandoning her home he wrote back dissaproving with her decision. She gave him explinations and he was still not accepting 10:19 PM

Sarai Silvestre:  When Edna wrote to her husband about abandoning her home he wrote back dissaproving with her decision. She gave him explanations and he was still not accepting it. He told her to think about what other people would say about her leaving. Since Edna is like a trophy to him he doesn’t want people to know that she is leaving him. He was also thinking about his financial integrity.

When Edna goes to visit her children, what is her reaction? Why do you think she reacts that way?

Mercedes:  When Edna visits her children she is happy & thinks about them a lot after the visit. I think she feels this way because she finally has time to herself which is allowing her to grow. Edna is becoming grateful for others around her since she is starting to become happy & free.

Monae: To me it seemed like she was distant from her kids and I think deep down she felt bad that she was lusting away her time thinking it was love and she felt in denial about not really being a mother.

Leo: She hugs them tight. I think the reason is that she is unconsciously concern about her children’s future. Those children could be the last big road block that hinder Edna from seeking freedom. Also I think she feels a little bit guilt to her children because she was not taking good care of them and not being good mother that fits social expectation.

Marco:  She is happy to see her children because she hasn’t seen them in a long time. They catch up with what they haven’t experienced together yet.

What does Madame Ratignolle tell Edna? Do you agree with her? Explain.

Dezmond:  Madame Ratignolle tells Edna that she’s been acting like a child. Yes I absolutely agree with her because Edna is rash. She does whatever she wants as long as it benefits her.

Chris: Madame ratignolle tells Edna that she has a lonely lifestyle where she is disconnected from others. She also says that alcee’s intentions could ruin her  name. In my opinion, she is right because Edna is tempted by other men. This pushes her into a place where she is very alone, due to her inner conflicts of being independent and free.

When Edna asks Robert to stay for dinner, what’s his COMPLEX reaction? And why do you think he reacts that way?

Brenda:  Robert hesitated on eating dinner with Edna because he made an excuse about having to see his mother. He had been avoiding her, especially being alone with her. He’s in love with her, but she’s married. Once he saw her sad face, he couldnt bare to see her like that and stayed for dinner.

Carmen:  He rejects Edna to come into her house which makes her extremely sad yet later he feels bad and comes in. I think he reacts this way because he is no longer interested, he liked Edna at grand isle not the Edna from New Orleans. He does not truly know that Edna.

Antonio: Robert at first doesnt want to stay but then he sees edna’s pitiful reaction and he is compelled to stay out of concern.

What does Robert think of Arobin, and how do you know?

Kevin: I believe Robert thinks Arobin is a prick and is jealous of him. Robert does not like Arobin because he thinks he is taking Edna. I KNOW because I think so and I read.

Esteffany: Robert is jealous of Arobin, he dislikes the man. He believes that Edna has true feelings for him and he cannot take such thing. He knows that he is charming and all but does not want to see Edna fall in love with him.

Ellie:  Robert thinks that Arobin is important to Edna. In their conversation in chapter XXXIII Robert discovers a picture of Arobin and becomes jealous. I know  this because Robert questions why she still holds on to it and he asks why she never told him about Arobin. At the end he flings Arobin’s picture to the  side, indicating that the picture bothered him especially because it was in her possession.

JC:  He thinks Edna is basically “cheating” on him with Arobin and he thinks that because of the photo of Arobin that he finds.

David: The Awakening

March 4th, 2012

So far I think I am liking this book! This is probably my best book I have done, as in like I am caught up with it and with annotations. It is interesting because it deals with earlier times in the world. For example that part where women cannot say no to their husbands. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it repeats too much. I feel that I read then in the next chapter it talks nearly about the same thing. Overall it’s a good book and I am glad I am doing good with it.

An improved iseroma mobile

February 18th, 2012

iseroma mobile does not have all the features and functionality as the main site, but some recent improvements should be noted.

1. You can read posts. Always stay up to date, even when you’re on the go!

2. You can comment on posts. Let your peers know what you think.

3. You can check out the AP English Page. This means you have access to daily agendas, assignments, and all your peers’ pictures and posts.

4. You can search the site. Every post is at your fingertips through search.

5. You can post. David did this during class! All you need to do is log jnto your account. Then you can reach your admin page. It’s not as easy to post as it is on a computer, but it is quite possible!

I hope you enjoy the new iseroma mobile!

David: Liking the Mobile Site!

February 16th, 2012

I like this mobile website! I can do my Weekender while in class! Well, I will talk a little about Hamlet. The play is kind of cool, but it is hard to understand. That is just how Shakespeare’s work is. Some of his other work is cool and easy, like Romeo and Juliet. Just at this moment, we are doing ‘close reading’ to have a better understanding of his work! Other than all this school stuff, I am going to Los Angeles this weekend, and I don’t feel like going, only because it is a long drive, but I guess it will be fun.

David: Life After Graduation

February 12th, 2012

So as of now, I think I am liking what will happen when I graduate. But there are always negatives to it! Which I hate so much!

After all, I hope it all works out. It is so far away, so I am not really worrying as much as I was before. I do hope I get better grade in AP English. Well later you guys! Hope you had a good weekend. Ready for school again??

Brenda: Field trip suggestions?

February 11th, 2012

Hey everyone! As the field trip planner, obviously, I have to plan field trips. Since you guys are the ones who will be going to the field trips, I would like your suggestions. :) They could be anything, from going to a cafe or watching the film version of a book. I know David suggested to go read at the park when the weather gets better.

David: Scarlet Letter

January 22nd, 2012

Chillingworth is a important character. He wants to do all this because he is enraged by all this that Prynne has done. The author is implying that most of the things he talks about happen in the modern world. Revenge, evilness and justic. When someone is enraged by such an act, they don’t think about whether they should act upon it or think it through. Most people would go for revenge because that seems like the most easy idea for people to do. Also, it can be contreversial that it has to do with justice. What ever happens to one person has to happen to another, that is how it mainly goes through out society. I disagree with that becasue it all depends with what is the story or the “case”.

Wendy: The Scarlet Letter Reflection

January 8th, 2012

“Her sin, her ignominy, were the roots which she had struck into the soil” (93).

The Scarlet Letter is a book I am really enjoying. Even though the language is sometimes hard to understand, I am still loving this book. I like it so much that David and I Skype just to read it together. The quote above is my favorite quote of the novel so far because to me this quote says so much of what Hester’s life is like, just because she made one mistake.

This book not only demonstrates how sins were punished but also how one mistake can ruin or change someone’s life forever. This book so far is affecting my soul because it is making me reflect that life is about how others a great deal of the time decide what happens to our lives. They judge our mistakes and decide the consequences for our punishments.

For instance, as we grow, our parents judge and create the consequences for our mistakes. In the novel the people of the town decide what to do with her. My favorite part of the novel is when the husband visits Hester in prison. So far what is confusing is just the language because it has words I don’t understand. My favorite character is Hester Prynne because she is just an intense woman that even though she feels like falling sometimes, she manages to stay standing and confront her reality. My prediction is that the priest is the father of Hester’s daughter and that is why she does not want anyone to know.

David: The Scarlet Letter Response!

January 8th, 2012

By far I think this is one of my favorite books from the ones we have read in class. Why!? Because it is so much of an attention grabber. Every line that I read it leads to something. It is sort of like a mystery. For example, in the scene where Reverend Mr. Dimmesdale asks Hester Prynne for the name of the father, she replies, “Never!” (78). And so he goes on trying to figure it out, but she doesn’t say anything but “it is too deeply branded. Ye can-not take it off. And would that I might endure his agony, as well as mine!” (79).

I think I like this book because it reminds me so much of Shakespeare, and his work I think is amazing.

First Night of Video Chat :)

November 7th, 2011

Hahaha! Tonight was pretty fun. Although Carmen and David were both MIA for a while, and I was being for a while, it was fun :) LOL I’m excited for the next Weekender. Also, I think Siddhartha is going to be a good book for me!

P.S. Stephanie saw me doing some embarrassing things while on camera! LOL

David: Under the Hands of the Government

November 4th, 2011

This is my Unit two project, which I am proud of! :)

I believe that the government has control over the peoples’ destiny and fate. Initially the people had it, but by their decisions and actions taken by the people, the government made policies and rules. Under what we live now: we are restricted to do many things that we would want to do but most people are not that age or there is a law or policy that holds us back. For my family experience I believe that we have our destiny and fate done by the government. My family are immigrants to this country, by coming here and getting documents to be “legal” here, we are choosing to live under the rule of this government. We are accepting to accept the terms and conditions, for example from iTunes. When I was in Guatemala we lived by what happens on that time. Like we lived by reactions, and here we have planed to do many things in life. For example, go to college. In Guate, we just lived under what my dad gave us. Here is completely different. The school to pipeline is something that has been developed by the students themselves. The students by doing what they decide to do and be rebellious kids, they get into major problems. Handing over the power to the government and the criminal justice system. Like the story in my Econ/Gov’t class. A girl named Alexa Gonzales, wrote on a desk and got in trouble for doing that because it was a “zero-tolerance” rule, where it is unacceptable no matter what. She got arrested for doing so. This is an example that when you do something “bad” or something that isn’t suppose to be done at all. The criminal justice system will be in charge given them the power over what happens to you.

In the Federalist Number 51, James Madison states that “In a single republic, all the power surrender by the people is submitted to the administration of a single government…” this indicates it is by choice of each American to put their fate and destiny into the governments hands. When this country was founded, the purpose for the Americans to “surrender” their power was to better secure it as the Declaration of independence suggests that any government that is unable to secure that power and the rights of the people, should be removed and recreated to better protect Americans interest. I believe that, this was a long time ago around 200~ something years and the government has changed over time and so has the people, but that is still in the conscious mind of every person. It will still always as people don’t know whether they accept to follow the rules or not, it is just a way of life that it’s being continued through out the following generations.

I know there is not a religion part to this but this is my opinion about it, many may disagree, I understand that many people have different beliefs and views on life. But here it is: Jordan Maxwell said, “The more you begin to investigate, what we think we understand where we came from, what we think we are doing, the more you begin to see we’ve been lied to, we’ve been lied to by every institution, what makes you think for one minute that the religion institution is the only one that had never been touched, the religion institutions of this world are at the bottom of the dirt the religion institution In this world are put there by the same people who gave you your government, your corrupted education, who set up your international banking cartel.” Ever since the first lie that America has said has brought more ideas to other institutions, to lie to become better. The theory of the attacks on 9/11 made me come up to this decision because there has been a lot of conspiracies: saying it was the American government that had it planed; it was Al- Qaeda, etc. It is just hard to know who is correct or not correct.

Overall I believe that the government has our destiny and fate already destined. And we, the people, as American citizens, we don’t think about this stuff.

David: My Beloved response

October 30th, 2011
This book I did not like. It is a confusing book and really long. I am not a reader, so I consider it long for what I usually read. Honestly, I’m still behind in the book so I don’t know what has happened, so it is still confusing. This book didn’t affect me but reminded me of history because I love history.

Tips from Wendy, SoW #5: Keep It Up! :)

October 13th, 2011

Hello, my AP English family. :) First of all, I want to thank David for choosing me as the fifth Student of the Week. I am so glad that I was able to experience being Student of the Week, which I really enjoyed being. Moreover, I want to acknowledge the hard work we are all doing, and I am really happy to see how much we have improved this first quarter.

I know this class is challenging, and it stresses us out, but in the end, it is that challenge that is making us better AP English students. We are all hard working students and we all deserve to be students of the week. I really like how even though the class is hard, we manage to keep it fun. :D If we continue the hard work, I am sure we’ll all pass our AP English test!

SO, let’s keep working hard, help each other out and keep the class FUN! We got this, you guys! Congratulations, Carmen for being the sixth student of the week. :D

David: Student of the Week #4!

October 8th, 2011

So Student of the Week felt good! I was sort of and not really surprised I was going to be SoW, because you know how Marco is:)

But to be SoW, you just have to be yourself, try hard in class and overall believe in yourself that you are doing good. Don’t let anything bring you down. Only bring AP English to AP English. (Make sense?) If you want to be SoW, just wait for it. There will be a time for everyone, I believe and hope so:D

Have a good long weekend!

David: The Dream Act

Here is my video that suggests that not passing The Dream Act is an example of dehumanization, one of the big themes of Unit 1.
