Chavonni: AP Test

May 6th, 2012

I am ready for this test. I dint do an essay everyweek to fail. I have can a long way with my writing skills. I looked back on my first essay and My writing has change so much. I am ready for college and I am ready for this test. Now when I write essays, everything comes easy. I know how to do an excellent outline, and I have conqued the obsticle of writing a thesis statement.

I know for a fact that my writing has grown because when I took my English college placement test at San Francisco state it was easy! I understand the complicated questions they give us. I have studies for the multiple choice section and I know way more lit terms than I did at the beginning of the year. My spelling can be a little better but I know how to write in present perfect tense now. At first, I used to always some how slip second person point of view in my essays, now I don’t do that at all. I am going to pass this test!!

Quizzards: March 8

March 12th, 2012

There were fewer Quizzards this time, but it’s wonderful to see who is really stepping things up, making sure to put in consistent study, and reading The Awakening closely.

Congratulations to the five Quizzards: Wendy, Chavonni, Chris, Nathaly, and Ellie!

Chavonni: The Awakening

March 5th, 2012

So far I like the book. I like Kate Chopin’s writing style and like how much detail she uses when she explains the sea. I don’t like how slow its starting off though. I’m wating for something crazy to happen. I don’t like Robert. He needs to stop trying to snatch Mrs. P from Mr. P. I like Hamlet better, but I like how easy it is to read this book. The language is less difficult which makes reading the book less stressful. I am doing better on my tests because of this book and sense now that I am forced to do annotations, because I want my group to get a good grade, I understand the book.

Chavonni: Hamlet and stuff

February 19th, 2012

I wasn’t expecting to like the book Hamlet. That translation thingy really has helped me understand Hamlet better. But I am not excited about doing the play at the ASM. I feel like I have done enough trying to memorize things for this year, but I am going to try to keep a positive attitude about it and make it fun as I possibly can, even though I have like two lines. I want to get it over with, so my team’s scene will be the first scene for the project. Other than that, AP English is going well for me. I am raising my grade in this class, and my senior sickness is cured :) Mr. Isero cares about me and I appreciate that. He is the only teacher who cares if I am slacking and not preforming my best in their class, and actually tries to help me get back on my feet. He motivated me to do better in my other classes as well. Shout out to Isero!!

G of the Week: Chavonni

February 16th, 2012

Congratulations to Chavonni, the Grammarian of the Week. Chavonni made sure to come to office hours to get her essay down to zero errors.

I am pleased by Chavonni’s dedication to grammar. Her writing is improving, and her message in her essays has become more clear because her conventions have become more solid.

Like many things in life, growing in grammar takes dedication, and sometimes, you don’t always know that you’re improving.

As with most things in life, consistent hard work leads to benefits.

I applaud Chavonni for her commitment to grammar.

Chavonni: Life status

February 12th, 2012

The positives in my life is that I got accepted into one college. I never thought I would make it this far because I don’t feel like I have that many people supporting me and I lost motivation for a while, but my motivation now is I want to finish off school strong because I’m tired of my house.

A negative in my life right now is my laziness.  I always put things off until the last minute. I’m always tired. And I need to hurry up and do some scholarships. It’s like I know I need to do something and I’ll be thinking about that thing I have to do all day but still never do it -__- but I’m going to try to do things earlier.

Chavonni: New Camera

November 20th, 2011

Id like to give a special thanks to Mr. Isero … I now own one of the cheapest cameras possibly ever invented! Even though the mic is defective, I been taking lots of pics on it. I love My cheap camera <3 Thank you Isero.  (No sarcasm intended)

Chavonni: Siddhartha Synopsis

November 9th, 2011

This book is about a 17-year-old named Siddhartha.  He is on a quest to find himself. He is a Brahmin, which is one of the highest classes. He is not satisfied with his life because he feels that everyone is materialistic. He wants to become closer to God,  and in order to do so, he becomes a Samana. All he wears is a loincloth and he meditates all day and challenges God.  Siddhartha and Govinda discover Buddha but Siddhartha still is not satisfied. He ends up meeting a beautiful girl and he becomes materialist again. (Everything he said he didn’t want to be) I guess that was his destiny.

Chavonni: Destiny

November 4th, 2011

In this illustration I talked about how our lives are already sought out for us. In Siddhartha, the next book we’re reading, he didn’t want to be a Brahmin, and in Oedipus  he wasn’t meant to be the king of Thebes. Both of their true destinies were already set in stone.

I haven’t finished Siddhartha, but I know that in both Oedipus and Siddhartha, they tried to change their destiny. Oedipus’s true destiny showed in the end. In my drawing the stone path is supposed to represent the destiny that God created for us. The blue path is supposed to represent the life we want to live. The two paths that intercept is supposed represent how the life we choose and our true destiny come together eventually.

Chavonni: The character Beloved

October 28th, 2011

An important character in Beloved is Beloved. She becomes the symbol for the pain of the black community that suffers from the horrors and pain of slavery and racism and then is tossed aside and forgotten. Beloved, first a baby ghost and then a reincarnated eighteen-year-old girl, comes back to haunt the mother who murdered her. Beloved was deprived of nurturing as an baby and feels betrayed by her mom; all she yearns for is love. She is so demanding of her mother’s emotions that Sethe has nothing left over for Denver or herself. Throughout the novel, Beloved is “different” to everyone who comes into contact with her. For Sethe, she represents a chance for her to redeem her past actions. For Denver, she provides friendship and a break from her lonely, isolated existence. For Paul D, she becomes a lover. For the community, she is an embodiment of all the infants and children who were cast away from the slave ships and from slave mothers who wanted to resist against slavery.

Chavonni: My Post…
