Volunteer at the SF International Children’s Games!

Need community service hours?

Want to meet people from all over the world?

Are you interested in networking?

San Francisco is hosting the 42nd International Children’s Games this July. Young athletes from 50 countries will gather to compete in basketball, golf, soccer, table tennis, track, volleyball, and swimming. Volunteer and get community service hours while you have fun!

Benefits of volunteering:
• Admission to the “Olympic–themed” Opening Ceremonies
• Admission to Festival Village –- a recreational area with food, games, and entertainment

Book Signing Party a Big Success!

The Book Signing Party for Pass It On was a big success. Thank you, everyone, for coming. This is a big deal! If you’re a member of the Class of 2009 and didn’t get your copy, please come by Room 124.

Note: We meet only twice this week because of the Teach-In on Thursday and because of Professional Development (no school) on Friday. Please check your calendar.

Block 1
1. WU: Vocabulary Quiz 1-440.
2. Vocabulary Review, 441-460. SAT Words 351-500.
3. Read TTTC. Through 178.
4. Final Big Book Time. Pieces due next block (all drafts and revisions).

HW: Final Draft due! No credit for late work! Also, bring all your Big Book work (hard and soft copies).

Block 2
1. WU: Big Book Inventory.
2. Read TTTC. Through 196.
3. Big Book. Beginning the publishing process.

HW: Study for vocab quiz. Do Steps 1-3 of publication process (see sheet).

This week, we’re focusing on getting tickets for the Senior Exhibition.

Get your ticket as quickly as you can!

Adv12: Week of 4/28

We’ll be in Senior Exhibition Workshops during the mornings of Monday through Thursday.

We’ll start in our Advisory to check in, and then students will go to the Workshop room appropriate to where they are in the Exhibition process. Please see the Advisory 12 tab to get copies of the assignments.

Room 1 = Writing Room (reflection essay, research essay, action service plan)
Room 2 = Service Room (solidifying plans for community service, adult shadow, action service placement)
Room 3 = Script and Rehearsal (to write script and rehearse presentation)
Room 4 = Visuals (to create all three visuals)

After completing all four rooms, students will attempt to get their “Ticket” to present on May 16.
The last day to get the ticket is Thursday, May 8.

1. WU: CST Reflection – (1) How did you feel about the test today? (2) What tips were helpful? (3) What was challenging and should be incorporated in preparation for next year?
2. Vocabulary Review, 421-440. SAT Words 351-500.
3. Read TTTC. Through 162.
4. Big Book Mini-Workshops. I checked for 2nd drafts (and 1st revisions). Workshops were on vivid imagery and precision in grammar.

HW: Vocabulary quiz 1-440, Third draft (and 2 revisions) due next Monday. See me with your draft!

Block 2
1. WU: Vocab Quiz
2. Read TTTC. Through 177.
3. Big Book Mini-Workshops. How to format dialogue.

HW: Third draft (and 2 revisions) due next Monday. I should have read your piece, too.

Book Signing Party Coming on May 7

Pass It On: Interviews by Youth with Mentors that Matter is out! To celebrate, we’re having a Book Signing Party on May 7 at Lunch in Room 114.

If you were in English 10 last year, you’re in the book. Everyone should come. Please invite your mentors and your family. If you didn’t realize it yet, this is a big deal!

All students who attend the event will get two free copies of the book – one to keep and one for your mentor. If you want more copies, go to www.amazon.com or www.nextgenerationpress.org.
