Support The 1,000,000 Word Challenge

December 24th, 2010

Help a ninth grader love reading even more. Support The 1,000,000 Word Challenge. There are many ways to donate!

1. Buy a book from our Amazon wishlist. These are books that students have requested! You can bring the book in or ship it to my gift registry address. Feel free to buy the $4 used books, and if you’re feeling generous, take advantage of free shipping for orders over $25.

2. Buy a Kindle book from our Amazon wishlist. Want to make sure the book you donate never gets lost or destroyed from too much reading? Click a book’s “Kindle Edition” and email your order to misero@leadershiphigh.org. Each Kindle book you donate goes on all 3 of our classroom Kindles, so it’s like getting 3 books for the price of 1!

3. Make a donation on my DonorsChoose page. DonorsChoose is a non-profit organization that helps teachers get resources they need. Just click on one of my projects and donate as much as you like.

4. Bring in a book that you loved reading as a ninth grader. Was there a book that made a difference in your life? Maybe the most personal way to support The 1,000,000 Word Challenge is by sharing a book you love. Come by Room 317 anytime!

5. Donate directly to our classroom library. If you don’t want to deal with Amazon or DonorsChoose, click here and make a donation. You can use PayPal or your credit card. I’ll be sure to use the money where it’s needed!

Thank you very  much! For your generous donation, you will receive my deepest thanks and a letter for tax purposes.

So is it possible to embed a video directly from the Vodpod site? Yes, it is. One benefit is that Vodpod is not blocked at school. Too bad YouTube is!

Welcome to iseroma.com’s new design

December 3rd, 2009

After two years, iseroma.com gets a new look today. I hope that you like the redesign: brighter, cleaner, happier.

Besides looking good, the new design is geared to encourage more students and families to interact with the site. I’m hoping that students, especially my advisees, will post original content and that everyone will feel free to interact with each other and write comments.

Go ahead! Find a post and then write a comment!

The redesign is only one of the ways I’m hoping to improve iseroma.com. There will also be more improvements over Winter Break. If you have ideas about how to improve iseroma.com, please leave a comment!

Check out another new feature: iseroma live!

September 15th, 2009

To succeed in school, what you do outside of class is probably as important as what you do inside of class.

That’s why iseroma.com now has iseroma live!

iseroma live is a place where you can chat with me and your friends about homework, projects, and anything else Isero-related.

You can chat anytime. Just click on the “Live” page above. Tune in on Tuesdays from 8 to 9 p.m. if you also want to use iseroma live as your way to do your office hours!

Use Google Docs Offline!

December 6th, 2008

Some students say they like Google Docs but their Internet doesn’t always work at home.

Well, you can use Google Docs even without the Internet. This means that you can work on a document offline and sync it when the Internet works again.

If you have a laptop, this means you can work anywhere.

Watch this video (where you can access YouTube) to find out how.

Your new Google Apps account is up

August 23rd, 2008

The new school year is bringing a lot of excitement, including a new building and a new food service. Add to that this: You now have a free professional email address and account with Google Apps.

What does this mean? A lot. It’ll be easier to communicate with your peers and your teachers. You’ll have a professional email you can use on your resume. And you’ll be able to do your work for class much more easily without having to worry about losing your work or finding a computer to print your stuff.

Your English teachers will help you get your account, but if you want yours early:
1. Go to home.lhssf.org.
2. Click on “Mail” underneath “Applications @ LHS.”
3. Register. Your username is your firstnamelastname (all together) and your temporary password is LHSpride! (which you’ll change).

If you get stuck, watch How to Register with Google Apps (my first screencast!).

Independence Day, by Richard Ford

August 3rd, 2008

- Book Review by Mark Isero, Staff -

No, sorry, this book isn’t about the Fourth of July or fireworks or BBQs. But it’s still one of my favorite books. Most people say that the book doesn’t have much plot, and they’re right: The only thing that happens is that the main character takes his son one weekend to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

But that’s not what the book is really about. It’s about a man who’s trying to figure out the next steps in his life — what his goals should be, what he should be about. Richard Ford, the author, does an incredible job with interior monologue, so it feels like the main character is right next to you telling you his story.

It’s a long book, but don’t be discouraged; it will go fast. If you have any questions, just email me!
